Information Security Office Services

Western's Information Security Office offers several services to the campus community.

Information Security Awareness Trainings

The ISO has developed a University Information Security Awareness training in the campus learning management system Canvas.  This course satisfy's the University's and state's requirements for yearly security awareness training.

Incident Management

Whether you think you clicked on a suspicious link in an email or got notice of a major security breach, the ISO and ATUS help desk will make sure you take all the necessary steps you need to protect yourself and the University.  Learn the steps to take if an incident occurs.

Vulnerability Management Services

The ISO runs a vulnerability management program.  We can scan your servers, workstations, websites, and networked devices and provide you with a report of security flaws.  We will also help you interpret the results and remediate the vulnerabilities.

Security Monitoring and Operations

The ISO uses several tools to provide security monitoring operations including a security information and event management (SIEM) system, a netflow monitor, an intrusion detection and prevention (IDS/IPS) system, a vulnerability management scanner, and various cloud service protection tools.  If you have particular needs, we are happy to work with you to utilize our existing tools or help you configure some of your own tools.

Security Consultations

Your success is our success.  If we can help you, please reach out to us, and we will do what we can to assist you.

Security Design Reviews and Risk Management

If you are thinking about purchasing a new system or doing a major upgrade to an existing system, please contact the ISO for a Security Design Review.  We will help you identify any security gaps in the vendor or in your design, and give you ideas on how to remediate those gaps.
