Privacy

Data privacy and security are often confused. Privacy, as defined in University policy POL-U5315.02, Affording Individual Privacy Rights is the concept that an individual has the right to:

  • Reasonably control the collection, use, and disclosure of their protected information, and
  • Be free from intrusion into their personal matters and information.

Information security is focused on protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data which in turn ensures data privacy.

For legal, policy, and procedural questions related to privacy, please reach out to the University's separate privacy office.
