SharePoint Phishing Attacks on the Rise

Watch out for phishing emails claiming to be an important document shared with you from a WWU employee or office.  Look for the trademark warning signs:

  • Names in the email message that don't match the name in the subject line.
  • Emails that claim to be from a WWU employees, but are sent from the generic "no-reply@sharepointonline.com" instead of a wwu.edu address.
  • Shared files that sound important or urgent but were not expected, such as messages about compensation.
  • Emails with message at the bottom stating that they were sent by a different school or organization, not WWU.

When you receive these emails, please don't rush to open them.  Stop, think carefully if there is anything suspicious about them, and when in doubt report them as phishing by clicking the Report button in Outlook or contacting the ATUS Help Desk.
